Diarrhoea: one dies

KRISHNAGIRI: An aged daily wage earner died of diarrhoea on Thursday morning after he got discharged against medical advice from the Government Hospital, Kaveripattinam. A. Ganesan, Deputy Director (Health Services) told The Hindu that 22 people came to the hospital with symptoms of diarrhoea.
Five persons were referred to Government District Hospital, Krishnagiri, three were discharged after treatment and a baby was admitted in a private nursing home. He said that four samples of drinking water were taken from a private pulp factory in Banniaalli village on the Kaveripattinam-Palacode main road. Samples were sent to the Institute of Vector Control in Hosur. The report is expected in two days. Dr. Ganesan said that a team of doctors visited the huts put up outside the pulp factory.
The management was asked to stop supply of drinking water from the tank and keep the surroundings of the make-shift huts erected there clean. People from Ulundurpet, Villupuram and Tiruvannamalai are staying in these huts.
The deceased has been identified as Ayyakkannu from Vellaiyanpudur, near Ulundurpet.
Collector V.K. Shanmugam told The Hindu that Labour Inspector has been instructed to visit all pulp industries in the district and submit a report.
