HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam Dalit leaders and legislators have threatened to launch an agitation if the government does not stop harassing their colleague T. V. Rama Rao and withdraw the CID inquiry against him. Addressing a press conference, M. Narsimhulu and K. S. Ratnam, said the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, far from expressing regrets for harassing a Dalit MLA, has given a go ahead for a CID inquiry though no victim of alleged rape and murder was found. In the preliminary inquiry itself at Mr. Rao’s Nursing College in West Godavari district, the police found no evidence while forensic experts dismissed the blood stains as red oxide. The Dalit leaders alleged that the Chief Minister was encouraging such activities not only to pressurise the Dalit MLA to support Congress but to send a signal to others. Mr. Rao said he has been targeted by Congress workers with encouragement from district party president, ever since he won from Kovvur constituency. After floating the rumour of rape and murder, they attacked the college building with the intention of defaming him while the police kept calling on him at odd hours.
