NEW-LOOK ADVANIS: Senior BJP leader L.K. Advani and wife Kamala Advani in traditional Kodava attire at a resort in Kodagu on Friday.

Madikeri: For senior BJP leader L.K. Advani and wife Kamala Advani, who are relaxing in the quietude of the verdant surroundings at a resort near Siddapur in Kodagu district, Friday offered a different experience.

Mr. Advani turned a Kodava wearing traditional Kodava costumes while Ms. Kamala Advani became a Kodavathi much to the amusement of the other family members present there. Efforts made by four local journalists to enter the resort proved futile yet again and their cameras were seized by the securitymen.

Mr. Advani wore ‘kupya’ (black overcoat), ‘chele’ (a golden-hued sash around waist), ‘peechekathi’ (a small curved dagger tucked into the ‘chele’) and ‘mandetuni’ (head turban).

He was helped out by an acquaintance who had been with him in jail during the Emergency. Ms. Kamala Advani too got a helping hand from local residents.

The Leader of the Opposition planted a sapling on the premises as is the practice whenever VVIPs visit the resort.

He spent time taking a stroll in the morning, reading and watching TV during the day.
