An incredible success story

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Much has been said and written about the unique contribution that women can make to the corporate world. Yet, Tupperware India Pvt., Ltd., is the example of an enterprise whose incredible success has been scripted entirely by women from all walks of life.

Asha Gupta, Managing Director of Tupperware India, said, “We, as an organisation, aim to channel the immense potential that women have and transform their lives. We believe in making them financially independent entrepreneurs who can work with flexible timings from their houses.”

Commenting on the impact that the recession has had on the business, she said that women have now woken up to the realisation that during a financial crisis, every individual at home must contribute to finances.

Thus the corporate set-up has become a tool for social empowerment.

At the core of the Tupperware story is its group of motivated and visibly enthused women. Jyothi Venkatesh, a manager, who joined the company two years ago, said she was attracted to the idea as no investment was required and lack of knowledge of English was not a barrier.

Ms. Venkatesh puts in around four to five hours of work a day and earns Rs. 15,000 a month.
