DAVANGERE: Over three lakh honge saplings will be planted in 15 gram panchayats limits in three taluks of Davangere district under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. Deputy Commissioner of Davangere district K. Amaranarayana said in a statement issued here on Sunday that an action plan had been prepared to plant the saplings. Farmers would be informed of the importance of growing honge and they would be encouraged to nurture the plants, he said. Voluntary organisations will be roped in to create awareness in this regard. —Staff Correspondent The saplings will be planted on government land, gomala land and on government school premises. Teams comprising a nodal officer, gram panchayat secretary, agriculture assistant and horticulture assistant have been formed in each of the 15 gram panchayats. Forest guards will also be involved in the process. Prize money of Rs. 1 lakh would be given to the panchayats which over 95 per cent progress under the programme, he said.
