Protest against suspension of conductor

VIZIANAGARAM: Employees’ Union of Vizianagaram APSRTC Depot on Monday launched relay fast in protest against the suspension of conductor V. Ch. Naidu on June 25. Condemning the suspension as an act of “vengeance” by Depot Manager here, the union North-East Coast regional secretary P. Bhanu Murty told a press conference that it all happened when inspectors found excess amount of Rs. 92 in the cash bag of conductor on that day. The Depot Manager did not heed to appeal of the conductor that some passengers had forgot to collect the balance amount before getting down at their terminals between Jakkuva and Vizianagaram from him. As he was not having change he scribbled the balance amount due to them on back of their tickets, he said. Two passengers however made their claim at Gajapathinagaram depot controller on the same day but the Depot Manger here suspended Mr. Naidu, he said, adding that the union would intensify agitation in both Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts that form the region if the suspension was not revoked and also conceded 23 of their other demands that include replacing of old buses with the new ones, fixed duty hours, safe drinking water in all depots, weekly offs etc.

V. Krishnam Raju, AITUC president, said that the Depot Manager was “harassing” drivers and conductors without issuing duty schedules. B. Suri Babu, CPI leader, and others were present.
