Vigilance sleuths trap SI

BHUBANESWAR: Vigilance sleuths here on Monday trapped a police sub inspector who allegedly accepted bribe from a person for releasing papers of vehicle in connection with an accident case. The accused police sub inspector, P.K. Das, had concealed Rs. 5,000 under pillow in the rest room of Badagada Police Station. Vigilance wing officials seized the bribed money and initiated action against the official. According to sources, one Kamakhya Prasad Pradhan, city-based real estate developer, was returning from Puri along with their friends on June 16 when his vehicle hit a bi-cycle rider in Laxmisagar area. When the builder was released on bail, he came to Badagada police station to get back his vehicle. However, police refused to hand over the vehicle saying he needed to produce more documents. On the other hand, the police official allegedly demanded Rs. 5,000 for releasing the papers.

DCP Himanshu Lal said the accused sub inspector was suspended.
