Tamil in High Court: Moily promises action

CHENNAI: Action will be taken to make Tamil the official language in the Madras High Court, said Union Law Minister M. Veerappa Moily here on Monday.

He was talking to reporters after meeting Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi at his Gopalapuram residence here.

Mr. Moily said the Chief Minister had urged him to allow Tamil in the Madras Court. He had assured him that the Centre would initiate the necessary action.

Describing it as a courtesy call, Mr. Moily said that he wanted to meet Mr. Karunanidhi after the elections. He congratulated the Chief Minister on the United Progressive Alliance’s victory.

Mr. Moily said that he had requested Mr. Karunanidhi to release the Tamil version of his Kannada book ‘Ramayana Mahanveshanam’. The Chief Minister had agreed and would release the book at a function here on July 19.
