Haryana to get additional power from tomorrow

Proposal to supply power for 16 hours to industrial sector

Twenty-one hours to consumers in urban areas


CHANDIGARH: Power supply in Haryana would improve significantly from July 1 as the State Government would get an additional 1462.4 MW of power at a cost of Rs.672.51 crore from other sources.

There would be additional purchase of 1082.4 MW at a cost of Rs.502.06 crore during August and 1092.4 MW at a cost of Rs.488.52 crore in September, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda announced on Monday.

Presiding over a meeting to review short and long term measures being taken by the Power Utilities to improve the availability of power to consumers of various categories in the State, Mr. Hooda asked the officers to ensure uninterrupted supply of power for at least eight hours daily to the agricultural sector from July 1 and maintain this supply in August and September.

Adequate power for farmers

He reiterated the commitment of the State Government to provide adequate power to the farmers for timely sowing of paddy.

He said there was a proposal to supply power for 16 hours to the industrial sector from July 1 and 21 hours to consumers in urban areas. Similarly, the rural domestic consumers would get 13 hours’ supply in July followed by 13.5 hours in August and 14 hours in September.

He also reviewed the progress of the work on segregation of feeders.He disclosed that the construction work on the 2X600 MW Rajiv Gandhi Thermal Power Project at Khedar in Hisar district was going on in full swing and 77.32 per cent of the work had already been completed. The first unit would be commissioned before December this year and the second unit before March 2010.
