Magesh among the leaders

NEW DELHI: Grandmaster P. Magesh Chandran was among the three leaders with a perfect score after four rounds of the Montcada International Open chess tournament in Montcada, Spain, on Sunday.

Magesh, seeded 12, defeated Spain’s Fuentes Lluis Oms with black pieces and joined top seed Mathieru Cornette (France) and fourth seed Dublan Marc Narciso (Spain) in the lead.

Second seed Arun Prasad, who surprisingly lost the third round, bounced back with a victory over local challenger Eric Dominguez.

The results (involving Indians):

Fourth round: Fuentus Lluis Oms (Esp, 3) lost to P. Magesh Chandran (4); S. Kidambi (3) drew with Tania Sachdev (3); Arun Prasad (3) bt Eric Dominguez (Esp, 2).

Third round: Hipolit Vidarte (Esp) bt Arun Prasad; Tania drew with Marcos Llanzeza (Esp); Filemon Cruz (Per) drew with Kidambi; Maria Perpinya (Esp) lost to Magesh.
