Aravind, Vaishali win titles

CHENNAI: M. Aravind (PSBB) and R. Vaishali (Velammal MHSS) emerged winners in the under-8 boys’ and girls’ categories respectively at the Vaishnavi Friends Club State-level chess tournament here on Monday.

L. Ganesan, Tamil Nadu BJP president, gave away the prizes.

Boys: Under-8: 1. M. Aravind (PSBB) 6, 2. Hari Krishna (Sethu Baskara) 6, 3. C.S. Ashwath (Chinmaya Vidyalaya) 6; Under-10: 1. Murali Karthikeyan (Vivekananda Vidyalaya) 7, 2. R. Harini tops table

S. Harini of SRM College won the Kanchi Open Chess tournament with seven points at the Valluvar Gurukulam, Tambaram.

Though Venkatsundaram and P. Saravanakrishnan finished on seven points, they finished second and third on the basis of the tiebreak. Pon Krithika and A. Sankar followed with six points.
