Vaishali (Velammal MHSS) emerged winners in the under-8 boys’ and girls’ categories respectively at the Vaishnavi Friends Club State-level chess tournament here on Monday. L. Ganesan, Tamil Nadu BJP president, gave away the prizes. The results: Boys: Under-8: 1. M. Aravind (PSBB) 6, 2. Hari Krishna (Sethu Baskara) 6, 3. C.S. Ashwath (Chinmaya Vidyalaya) 6; Under-10: 1. Murali Karthikeyan (Vivekananda Vidyalaya) 7, 2. R. Bhuvan (Jawahar Vidyalaya) 5, 3. Dilip Kumar (DAV) 5; Under-12: 1. S. Kumar (Anitha Methodist) 5.5, 2. N. Daniel Raja (Don Bosco) 5.5, 3. S. Saravanakrishnan finished on seven points, they finished second and third on the basis of the tiebreak. Pon Krithika and A. Sankar followed with six points.
