IN a field as varied as medicine, there are hundreds of particular disciplines, each of them an involving array of technical and biological information, knowledge of the living human system, imagination, skill, problem-solving, not to mention the emotional aspects of treating people who are ill, hurt, and sometimes dying. A doctor must possess not only intelligence, alertness, responsiveness, memory, but also great compassion for human suffering, appreciation of human life, and a willingness to heal others. Needless to say that the rigorous training which most doctors undergo is hardly for the faint-hearted, and the educational standards and prerequisites of a medical instruction also require a level of concentration and goal-orientation that is enough to dissuade even the most ambitious of careerists. Though the modern trend towards spiritual and physical wellness has steered many in the direction of improving their lifestyles for the long run and incorporating both preventative and alternative medicinal methods, doctors continue to consult with patients on a daily basis. More likely than not, you and the people in your life have all at one time or another been patients and have received the advice, assistance, and expertise of medical professionals. Honor their hard work and dedication by inquiring after their own health and making it easier for them to relax, whether at home or on the job. If you have a family member or loved one who is a doctor, encourage them to rest and avoid getting too over-worked. They deserve it.
