CLUES team collecting fingerprints from Sri Venkateshwara Swamy temple in Nalgonda on Tuesday. NALGONDA: Burglars struck at Sri Venkateshwara Swamy temple at the VT Colony in the town and decamped with silver ornaments in the wee hours of Tuesday. According to sources, the thieves cut off the power connection to the burglar alarm system at the temple and broke open the lock of the sanctum sanctorum. They took away the silver ornaments of the presiding deity, including small crowns worth about Rs. 45,000, and fled the scene. The priests noticed the lock of the sanctum sanctorum opened in the early morning when they arrived at the temple to perform the morning pujas. The sophisticated burglar alarm system comprising sensors was installed at the temple following a similar theft at the temple last year. The way the burglars deactivated the alarm system and committed the theft raised suspicion on the involvement of persons who are well acquainted with the temple, sources said.
