Tania stuns Arun

NEW DELHI: International Master Tania Sachdev stunned compatriot and second-seeded Grandmaster S. Arun Prasad, while P. Magesh Chandran won again to remain the joint leader after five rounds of the Montcada International Open chess tournament at Montcada, Spain, on Monday.

Tania’s victory raised her tally to four points, where she was joined by GM in-waiting S. Kidambi who defeated local player Miguel Antoli. Tania and Kidambi share the third spot with nine others.

Magesh continued his winning sequence by beating the sixth-seeded Spaniard Marcos Vega Llanzea. He now plays fellow leader and top-seeded Frenchman Matthieu Cornette.

The results (involving Indians):

Fifth round: P. Magesh Chandran (5) bt Marcos Vega Llanzea (Esp, 3.5); Tania Sachdev (4) bt Arun Prasad (3); Miguel Antoli (Esp, 3) lost to S. Kidambi (4).
