Vikash, Subhankar cause a flutter

KOLKATA: Unseeded Vikash Singh of Bengal eliminated the fourth-seeded Danish Siddique of Gujarat in the under-12 boys’ pre-quarterfinal of the Calcutta Punjab Club AITA Talent series here on Tuesday.

In another upset in the same category, unseeded Subhankar Paul of Assam ended the run of eighth-seeded local boy Debjit Chatterjee.

The top-seeded Rishab Shah of Bengal and second-seeded Abhilash Mishra of Orissa progressed to the quarterfinals, winning their matches easily. Another local boy — the fifth-seeded Ritwik Chatterjee — too had an easy passage to the last-eight stage.

A few matches remained unfinished due to heavy rain in the afternoon.
