NEW DELHI: Reacting to newspaper reports questioning the existence of 45,000 “fake” employees in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi who were allegedly drawing salaries in their names, the civic body on Tuesday clarified that since all its employees were being paid their salaries through the Electronic Clearance System the question of non-existent staff was ruled out. Leader of the House Subhash Arya said: “The MCD is paying salaries to all its employees right from the Commissioner to the safai karamcharies, beldars and malis through ECS. It is impossible to open an account in a bank these days without proving one’s identity and address proof. It implies that each and every employee who is getting salary exists and there are no ghost employees.” He said the MCD was still in the process of implementing the bio-metric system of attendance and there were 15 days left for all the employees to register themselves. “The MCD is in the process of reaching out to the left-out employees. A large number of employees have not got themselves registered because they have not yet taken the call seriously. Once they are denied salary from July 15 this year, they would definitely wake up and get themselves registered. It will further take more than a month before we arrive at any conclusion. Till then we should not indulge in speculation,” he added.
