Bringing alive the magic of the monsoon

CELEBRATING MONSOON: Sitar maestro Ustad Shujaat Khan

NEW DELHI: To herald the arrival of the monsoon, the seventh edition of “Barkha Ritu: Celebrate Rains…Celebration Life” featuring sitar maestro Ustad Shujaat Khan and vocalist Sanjeev Abhyankar is being organised at India Habitat Centre here this Friday.

The festival, to be inaugurated simultaneously in Delhi and Mumbai this year, is a prayer to the rain gods, a call to quench the parched soil and turn the earth green with its magical caress.

The concert will provide music lovers an opportunity to experience the magic of the monsoon live by the two stalwarts of Hindustani classical music, Ustad Shujaat Khan and Sanjeev Abhyankar.

The Barkha Ritu festival was conceived and presented by Banyan Tree Events for the first time in 2003 in Mumbai with the intention of taking a few fleeting moments of music connoisseurs to revel in and experience the beauty of the monsoon through the rich bounty of Hindustan classical music.

Over the years Barkha Ritu has evolved into one of the most awaited monsoon music festivals. It will be held in seven cities this year – Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Kolkata and Goa. Lilting lyrics, musical brilliance and masterly rendering by eminent artistes make this festival an unforgettable experience for many.
