Members of Kannada Sene take out procession

Activists submit memorandum to administration

Bring pressure on Union Government, State urged

Raichur: Members of the Raichur district unit of the Kannada Sene took out a procession and staged a dharna here on Wednesday demanding that the State Government bring pressure on the Union Government to amend Article 371 of the Constitution to give reservation in education and employment in the Hyderabad Karnataka region.

Activists, led by K.R. Kumar, president of the State unit of the sene, gathered at the Teen Khadil Circle here and staged the dharna to draw the attention of the people on the need for bringing in the amendment.

Later, they took out a procession to the Deputy Commissioner’s office.

After submitting a memorandum to the district administration, Mr. Kumar said that the Union and the State Governments were aware of the backwardness of the region.

People from the region have been demanding an amendment to Article 371 since long but there has been no proper response from the concerned.

He said that the State Government had failed to act to bring pressure on the Union Government in meeting the long-pending demand of the people. They would intensify the agitation if this continued, he said.
