Notice to State on quota for physically challenged
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday ordered issue of notices to the State Government and other respondents on a petition by a paraplegic doctor asking for reservation for the physically challenged in higher education. S.J. Rajalakshmi, the petitioner, said she had completed Bachelor’s degree in dentistry from Oxford College, Bangalore and bagged sixth rank in orthodontics. Soon after, a road accident left her a paraplegic with 75 per cent disability. She appeared for the PGCET conducted by RGUHS and sought reservation under physically handicapped category. She was refused reservation, saying that it did not exist for a super-speciality course.
The State Government contended that there is no reservation in higher education.
