Commendable

Justice R. Reghupathi of the Madras High Court deserves praise for revealing that a Union Minister called him in connection with a case relating to anticipatory bail. If true, the Minister’s action amounts to contempt of court.

K.C. Joseph,

Thiruvananthapuram

Justice Reghupathi’s startling revelation has exposed the attempt by politicians to bend the judiciary in their favour. The Chief Justice of India has rightly condemned the incident.

It is not uncommon for politicians to try and influence the judicial process but such incidents are hardly reported. The Prime Minister should take necessary steps so that the image of his Ministry is not tarnished.

G. Ramachandran,

Thiruvananthapuram
