Rain brings relief to discoms, consumers
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: Spelling relief for consumers as well as the power distribution companies, the rain that hit the Capital on Tuesday managed to bring down the demand for power. The peak demand fell by over 400 MW to reach 3,869 MW on Wednesday.
With less demand to cater to, the discoms too were spared heavy over-drawal from the Northern Grid and also from purchasing expensive power from Power Exchange. The dip in demand also brought relief from long-drawn power cuts across the city. Rotational load-shedding was carried out only in a few areas served by BSES.
Listing the steps taken by the company to procure power, BSES officials said: “BSES purchased and received 358 MW of additional power to successfully meet the power demand of around 2,555 MW in its licensed area.”
