Waiting for their chance: Admission seekers at Delhi University on Wednesday.

NEW DELHI: On the first day of admissions as per the second cut-off list at Delhi University on Wednesday, several students withdrew from one college to seek admission in another.

Gargi College saw 60 withdrawals on Wednesday. The college has already admitted 955 students against 1,000 seats. As many as 70 candidates from the Other Backward Classes have been admitted to the college so far.

“We have over-admitted students in some Science courses as is the tradition because a lot of them drop-out later on,” said Gargi College Principal Meera Ramachandran.

Humanities

Hans Raj College admitted 100 students in Sciences and as many in Humanities on Wednesday.

However, the college had 80 students withdrawing the same day.

“We have so far had 1,200 admissions against 1,000 seats. But we have not got many OBC candidates, only a poor 25 against 200 seats reserved for them in all courses,” said Principal S.R. Arora.

Sri Venkateswara College admitted 211 students on Wednesday, taking the total number of admissions to 1,187. The college has taken 81 OBC candidates so far, including 22 on Wednesday.
