KOLLAM: The Kollam Railway Court has set a record by collecting a fine of around Rs.25 lakh and disposing of 10,821 cases between January 1 and June 30. The achievement is a record in the operation of railway courts, a statement said. As a result of the court action, incidents of thefts, gambling, consumption of alcohol, harassment of women, unauthorised sale, chain-pulling and unauthorised transport of goods had appreciably come down in the Thiruvananthapuram division. Encroachments on railway property and anti-social activities on railway premises too have come down. In one incident, a fine of Rs.2,000 was imposed on a courier service company that had been transporting parcels without booking for the past five years. These parcels were kept under lower berths of bona fide passengers.
