Market the major attraction

Correspondent

KORAPUT: Bahuda Jatra, the return car festival at Sabara Srikhetra, Koraput, has offered much more to the thousands of people from the tribal communities than having the spectacular view of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra moving on the chariot on Thursday.

While for the elderly people who came from the most inaccessible parts of the district, it was a rare opportunity to be a part of the festival amidst so many people and meeting people of their communities at one place, the market remained the major attraction for the tribal children and youth.

Being dressed like the urbanites these children from rural pockets have ample scope to select from dark goggles to bamboo flutes in the market that was specially set up for the festival.

The children have more liking for different kinds of plastic toys.

However, cutting across the difference in the age group everyone had the taste of mouth-watering sweets that were available on the roadside targeting the rural people.

Even though the climate was little cool following showers on Wednesday night, the tribal people could not resist the temptation of having a glass of cool lassi before leaving the town.

One of the greatest events that takes place on Bahuda Jatra every year at Korput is the offering of Podo Pitha to Lord Jagannath on the way back from Sri Gundicha tample.

The chariot reached its destination near the Sub-Collector’s office by 5 p.m.
