HYDERABAD: The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) has stated that the criticism by the Opposition on appointment of Rajya Sabha member K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao as the chairman of the committee on public security was unfounded as he neither enjoyed executive powers nor any benefits. Addressing a press conference, Government Chief Whip Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and MLCs G. Rudraraju and R. Padmaraju said it was unfortunate that Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu passed half truths against Mr. Rao without knowing that the latter headed a panel which was only an advisory body. They reminded Mr. Naidu that he was the chairman of several panels appointed by the Telugu Desam government without being an MLA. On the contrary, Mr. Rao was a Rajya Sabha member. Referring to criticism by the Left parties that Mr. Rao was an extra Constitutional authority, they asked the CPI (M) to set its house in order before levelling such a charge. By their own admission, activists of CPI (M) had branded their former legislator Tammineni Veerabhadram in that manner as he superseded the powers of the party’s State secretary B.V. Raghavulu. At a separate press conference, Congress spokesmen K. Mrutyunjayam and N. Tulasi Reddy also lashed out at the Opposition for criticising co-op farming which the Government was set to adopt.
