Raghuveera allays fears over co-op farming
Staff Reporter
TUBADU (GUNTUR DT): Allaying apprehensions over the consequences of cooperative garming, Agriculture Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy said on Thursday that the scheme would be introduced on a pilot basis in select districts.
Seed money
Briefly explaining the modalities of the scheme at the launch of centenary celebrations of former Chief Minister Kasu Brahamananda Reddy here, he said that the State government would invest Rs.10-20 crore seed money in the hands of societies formed by groups of progressive farmers.
The investment would be used to introduce modern farm mechanization methods in tilling and harvesting, use of bio fertilizers and hybrid seeds in natural conditions to ascertain the crop productivity.
Soil testing would be done to assess the crop productivity and fertiliser requirement, he said. “We will announce the detailed scheme within a week. There will be no coercion and we will introduce the scheme on a pilot basis,” he said. The Minister also urged the farming community to reconsider the use of complex fertilizer.
Central subsidy
He said the Central government which had borne a subsidy of Rs.1.30 lakh crore to provide fertilizer would continue to do so to the farmers.
