Rich tributes paid to Brahmananda Reddy

TUBADU (GUNTUR DT): The dusty village tucked away in Nadendla mandal was witness to hectic activity on Thursday. As scores of VIPs descended from Hyderabad, Guntur and other parts of the State, the villagers knew for sure that this was going to be a special day.

It was the native village of Kasu Brahmananda Reddy, one of the leading political stalwarts and the third chief minister of the State. Though he was born at Chirumamilla village, this village was his ancestral village.

The village wore a festive look and the villagers gathered to celebrate the life and times of their most famous `son of the soil’. Former civil supplies minister and Narsaraopet M.L.A, who took over the legacy of Kasu family, organized a ‘Rythu Sadassu’ as part of the centenary celebrations as the issues of farmers were dear to the soul of Mr. Bramananda Reddy stadium.

Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council Chairman A. Chakrapani was the chief guest, while former Speaker K.R. Suresh Reddy was the guest of honour.

Agricultural Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy, Major Industries Minister Kanna Lakshminarayana, M.L.As, District Collector B. Ramanunjeyulu and Superintendent of Police S.B. Bagchi were present.

Earlier, a pylon marking the centenary celebrations was inaugurated at the Kasu Venkata Krishna Reddy Park. A photo exhibition capturing some of the important moments in his chequered political career spanning five decades was also held.

All the speakers paid glowing tributes to Mr. Reddy. Mr. Lakshminarayana said that Mr. Reddy was instrumental in the construction of Nagarjuna Sagar, Srisailam and Pochampadu projects which made cultivation of paddy possible in the dry Palnadu region.

Mr. Reddy was also known for his legendary political acumen and was called as `Chanakya of Indian Politics,’ he said.

Former speaker Suresh Reddy said that he had great respect for Mr. Reddy and a life size portrait was installed in the Assembly in 2007.

The State Government has appointed a special committee under Finance Minister K. Rosaiah to conduct the celebrations, he said.

Mr. Kasu Krishna Reddy said that the centenary celebrations would be held in Guntur and on July 28, the celebrations would conclude at a meeting in Ravindra Bharathi.
