dated July 3, 1959: Laos situation

Britain has told China that peace and stability would be maintained in Laos provided all concerned acted strictly in accordance with the 1954 Geneva armistice settlement and “in particular refrain from interference in the internal affairs” of the Indo-China kingdom.

The British view is expressed in a letter to the Peking Government last month. The Foreign Office in London on July 2 published the text of a letter of June 22 from Mr. Selwyn Lloyd, British Foreign Secretary, to the Chinese Foreign Minister, Marshal Chen-Yi.
