MUMBAI: S. Aravind (Andhra Pradesh) overcame an early stumble to win over Amey Joshi (Maharashtra) 17-21, 21-12, 21-9 at the second Tata Open all-India badminton men’s singles qualifier at the CCI courts. With this win, he occupied one of the eight slots in the main draw. Manu throughManu Attri (Uttar Pradesh) grabbed the opportunity to figure in the main draw by winning his final qualifying tie against Abhimanyu Singh (Madhya Pradesh) 16-21, 21-18, 21-18. The contest lasted 48 minutes, the longest among the eight final qualifiers played on Thursday. Youngster Pratik Patel and experienced C.M. Sashidhar too made the grade at the expense of M. Manikandan and Velavan respectively. Anup withdrawsMeanwhile, qualifier Ratikanta Saha entered the men’s singles main draw, following Anup Sridhar’s withdrawal. Chetan Anand is the top seed in the men’s singles, followed by Aravind Bhat, P. Kashyap and Anand Pawar in that order. Ajay Jayaram, Guru Sai Dutt and J.B.S. Vidhyadhar complete the list.
