Tragedy: Relatives grieving for those who died in the violence in Mysore on Thursday. Mysore: Clashes between two communities that broke out in Kyathamaranahalli and surrounding areas in Udaigiri police station limits here on Thursday has left three persons dead and six persons injured. The police lobbed teargas shells and fired in the air in the violence-hit areas to quell the mobs that went berserk attacking the people with sharp weapons and setting ablaze vehicles. According to the police, the victims have been identified as Mubarak (25), Tirupathi (46) and Junaid Pasha (15). The condition of one of the injured, who has been admitted to a private hospital, is said to be critical. The trouble started following the desecration of a religious school that belonged to a particular community in Gayathripuram, adjoining Kyathamaranahalli, off Mahadevapura Road, where a carcass of a slaughtered animal was found. When the news spread, a large number of people gathered outside the school. Soon, an angry mob blocked Mahadevapura Road with stones and logs of wood, and another group the Udaigiri police station demanding action against those who desecrated the place. The police then lobbed teargas shells on the rioting mobs that continued to swell. The police eventually opened fire in the air near the junction of Kyathamaranahalli and Gousianagar Road to contain mob violence. Police Commissioner Sunil Agarwal, along with Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) V.S. D’Souza, took charge of the situation. Though the police say that the situation is now under control following deployment of additional forces in the trouble-torn areas, Kyathamaranahalli and surrounding areas are still tense. Prohibitory orders have been imposed in Udaigiri, Lashkar, Narasimharaja and Mandi Mohalla Police Station limits from 9 a.m. on Thursday till midnight of July 5.
