Lions blood bank marks silver jubilee

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: ‘Make available safe blood, anytime, anywhere and to anyone’ is our mission, said former District Governor of Lions Club International (324 A1) R. Rabindranath.

He was addressing an event here recently to mark the silver jubilee of the Lions Blood Bank.

The Lions Blood Bank has 11 satellite blood storage centres located in various hospitals in the city.

They process over 20,000 units of blood benefiting more than 35,000 people each year. The Bank works round the clock and its toll free helpline number is 1910.

Mr. Rabindranath thanked the State government for taking steps to set up a Rs.400 crore state-of-the-art blood bank in Chennai. “This may be a response to the healthy blood donation culture of Chennaiites that we had cultivated over the years,” he said.
