Vel Tech varsity signs MoU with Mexico-based centre

MoU is intended to facilitate research collaborations between the two institutes

CHENNAI: Vel Tech Dr. RR & Dr. SR Technical University has signed an academic and research agreement with the Mexico-based Centre for Research and Advanced Studies of I.P.N, otherwise called CINVESTAV.

Vel Tech’s Vice-Chancellor Mahalakshmi Rangarajan K and Pro-Chancellor Sakunthala Rangarajan signed the memorandum of understanding on Thursday with CINVESTAV’s general director Jose Pablo Rene Asomosa Y Palacio and international relations coordinator Velumani Subramaniam.

CINVESTAV has 28 research departments and offers 52 postgraduate programmes, of which 22 are at an international level. The MoU is intended to facilitate research collaborations between the two institutes, with the main thrust ideas including sustainable energy, micro systems and nanotechnology, biotechnology and biomedical engineering and electrical engineering.

Through this MoU, CINVESTAV is offering scholarships to Vel Tech’s Masters students to carry out their projects there.

Vel Tech students will have preference for admission to various programmes at CINVESTAV at the Masters and doctoral levels.

Common fund planned

It is also proposed to create a common fund between CINVESTAV and Vel Tech to motivate the exchange of professors and students, which will facilitate joint submission of project proposals to various international funding agencies.
