HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Fire and Emergency Services Department has initiated legal action against two industries for ignoring safety measures. Petitions were filed against the managements of S.V. Organics Private Limited in Jeedimetla and S.M. Laboratories Private Limited in Moula Ali holding them responsible for powerful explosions that occurred a few months ago. While two persons were burnt to death in the explosion at S.V. Organics, two others sustained injuries after a similar blast in S.M. Laboratories. The department initiated the process of prosecuting the managements of these two industries under Section 31 of the Andhra Pradesh Fire Services Act-1999. “We have filed separate petitions in the local courts at Medchal and Malkajgiri,” said Ranga Reddy district in-charge fire officer S. Prabodh Reddy. Officials said the managements had failed to comply with the mandatory safety measures. Except fire extinguishers, fire hydrants, sprinklers, foam and fire alarms were not provided. Another important aspect was that training programmes on safety measures were also not conducted for the employees. Enough open space was also not available for fire tenders to enter the premises to carry out fire-fighting. operation, they said. A few months ago, a jewellery shop owner in Punjagutta and an industrialist from Banjara Hills were prosecuted for failing to comply with safety norms in their respective multi-storeyed buildings.
