Third DU cut-off list unlikely in some courses

NEW DELHI: With Delhi University colleges due to announce their third cut-off list this Saturday, many of them might not open admission for some courses as they are already running full.

Hans Raj College is likely to close admission for all Humanities and Commerce courses as it has already taken 1,300 students against a total of 1,000 seats.

“We will declare a third cut-off list for B.Sc. Physical Science, B.Sc. Life Science and B.Sc. Applied Physical Science as well as honours courses in Sanskrit and Hindi,” said Principal S.R. Arora on Thursday.

Hindu College is running full in Physics (Hons), Chemistry (Hons), B.Sc. Applied Physical Science and Hindi (Hons).

The college will issue a third cut-off in other courses, including B.Com (Hons), where as many as 23 students withdrew admission on Thursday alone.

Sri Venkateswara College may not go for a third cut-off in Chemistry (Hons), Physics (Hons) and Mathematics (Hons).

“But this is all tentative as there is still one more day left for students to take admission and seek withdrawal from colleges as per the second cut-off list. Some of the courses where we will definitely have a third cut-off list are English (Hons), History (Hons), Hindi (Hons) and Sanskrit (Hons),” said Principal P. Hemlatha Reddy.

About 548 students have taken admission at Kamla Nehru College against a sanctioned strength of 771 seats.

“We will close B.Com (Hons), and honours courses in English, Hindi, History and Sociology, while the remaining programmes would be open in the third cut-off list. However, we will declare the third list in many courses to take in candidates from the Other Backward Classes,” said KNC Principal Minoti Chatterjee.

In fact, the OBC admissions are yet to gather steam in different DU colleges.

Dyal Singh College, which most probably will not have a third cut-off for B.Com (Programme) and Political Science (Hons), has admitted only 60 students from the OBCs following the first cut-off list and two days of the second cut-off list. The college has 250 seats reserved for them, according to Principal Inder Bakshi.

Hans Raj College has not moved beyond 50 OBC admissions against 200 seats in all the courses.

“The third cut-off list for the OBCs will be announced in almost all our courses, as we have not got the required number till now,” said Dr. Arora.

At Kamla Nehru College, out of 153 seats earmarked for the OBC category, only 36 had been filled till Thursday.
