Bharati Dasan triumphs

VIJAYAWADA: Tamil Nadu’s Bharati Dasan won the South India invitation carrom tournament defeating Hyderabad’s Dinesh Babu 12-3, 7-6 in the final at Official Club at Kavali, according to information reaching here on Friday.

The semifinal saw India No. 1 B. Radhakrishnan bowing out to Dinesh Babu 7-4, 11-0. All India Chess Federation joint secretary M. Chandra Mouli and Superintendent of Police Malla Reddy gave away the prizes.

The results:

Final: Bharati Dasan (TN) Dinesh Babu (Hyd) 12-3, 7-6.

Semifinals: Dinesh Babu bt B. Radhakrishnan (TN) 7-4, 11-0; Bharati Dasan bt Sagaya Bharati (TN) 9-4, 11-2.

Quarterfinals: B. Radha Krishnan bt Silambarasan (TN) 3-0, 16-0; Dinesh Babu bt Velmurugan (Pondy) 10-5, 14-0; Bharati Dasan bt S. Ramesh (Hyd) 10-5, 6-0; Sagaya Bharati bt Suman (TN) 9-4, 11-1.

Hemanth beats Naga

Hemanth Kumar defeated Naga Sai Yeshwanth while S. Priyanka beat Mounica Sai Lakshmi in the first round of the 23rd AP u-11 chess tournament for boys and girls held at Tadepalligudem.

The top two players in both the segments will represent AP in the National u-11 championship to be held at Karnataka from July 9 to 18.
