KOLKATA: The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), on Friday, disclosed that it had made an unprecedented profit of Rs. 14. 99 crore in the season gone by as against Rs. 4.91 crore it made the previous season. The finance committee of the CAB, which met here at the Eden Gardens, listed the total revenue earned from TV rights to Rs. 16 crore out of which Rs. 10 crore alone came from IPL TV rights and Rs. 6 crore from domestic TV rights. It also said that Rs. 32 lakh was given as incentive to Bengal players for earning promotion to elite group from plate division and Rs. 30 lakh was spent on the Sourav Ganguly felicitation. The CAB had formed a special committee to look into the excess money spent by the Prasun Mukherjee-led regime during the first IPL on different heads to the tune of Rs. 4.76 crore. The special committee, after going through the expenditure list, scaled the amount down to Rs. 1.75 crore. The committee decided to recommend to the working committee, to meet on July 11, to realise the money from the four office-bearers, Messrs Mukherjee, joint secretaries Amitava Banerjee and Samar Paul and treasurer Tushar Sarkar. In the event of the four failing to repay the amount, the committee recommended severe punishment. Meanwhile, East Bengal has signed Ranadeb Bose, ICL returnees Deep Dasgupta and Shiv Sagar Singh to play for it next season. According to its cricket secretary, Samir Dasgupta, Bose would most likely be made the captain. Mohun Bagan too picked up another ICL returnee Subhamoy Das and appointed former Bengal coach, Palash Nandy, at the helm for the coming season. Meanwhile, exciting top-order batsman Abhishek Jhunjhunwala, who too spent two seasons with the ICL, decided to accept the offer made by Rajasthan Royals and signed a one-year contract. His Royal Bengal Tigers teammate Aklakh Ahmed was considering joining Mumbai Indians after a call from the franchise.
