Panel to study details of mineral water supply

11-member panel formed with Engineer-in-Chief, RWS as convenor

HYDERABAD: A 11-member committee was constituted by the State Government on Friday to go into details of supply of potable drinking water to all the villages through suitable treatment plants.

Consequent to Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s announcement at the Collector’s conference about supply of packaged drinking water to the rural areas, the panel with Engineer-in-Chief of the Rural Water Supply B. Rajeswara Rao as its convenor was announced.

Members

The other members are: R .Kondal Rao, Technical Advisor to School Education and Housing, D. Rajasekhar, Area Officer, the Department of Drinking Water Supply, New Delhi, P. K. Tiwari, Head of the Desalination Department, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai, M. Nanoti, retired Deputy Head, NEERI, Nagpur, H.Umakanth Rao, CE/RWS-1, Hyderabad, B. Raju, CE, QC & V, RWS, Hyderabad, K. Suresh, CE, the Public Health Department, Hyderabad and Kullappa.

Besides this, a State-level officer with the Indira Kranti Patham/Self Help Groups would be nominated by the Principal Secretary, Rural Development.

A representative of UNCIEF dealing with drinking water subject would also be on the panel.

Report

The ENC, RWS would convene a meeting at the earliest and submit a detailed report to the government by July 9. The panel’s terms of reference include, study latest technology available for purification of the water Reverse Osmosis process and identification of most cost effective technology.

Issues such as feasibility of setting up of plants in the villages by adopting latest technologies and its operations or maintenance by the self help groups would also be examined by the panel.
