ALAPPUZHA: The houseboat division of Muthoot Group has announced the setting up of an Ecocell plant to treat waste from houseboats. Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Muthoot Group executive director George M. George said the plant was the first of its kind in the State. Consisting of electrodes and chemicals kept in separate tanks, the plant would treat waste from houseboats and recycle and purify the same before discharge, Mr. George said. The plant has a capacity of 10,000 litres a day. Mr. George said that other houseboats, other than those of the Muthoot Backwater Cruises, were welcome to use the facility at a nominal fee. The Rs.10-lakh plant was set up at a time when there was no similar government facility in Alappuzha, he said. The group would also set up an organic plantation to ensure pure food to its customers.
