Consumer body terms railway budget “public friendly”

Staff Reporter

TIRUCHI: The Golden Rock Branch of Consumer Protection Council, Tamil Nadu, has described the railway budget as public friendly and development oriented. In a statement, its secretary H. Ghouse Baig said the budget has positive and negative features. The announcement of Ladies special in suburban services, ticket booking facilities in 5,000 post offices, running of point-to-point trains, Janata food, a doctor in every long distance train and passenger friendly Tatkal scheme were all positive features.

However, the budget has no mention about the 125 projects which are pending. Further, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh have not got a fair deal as far as new trains and new railway lines were concerned. Nothing has been mentioned about the production of new coaches. Increase in coach production was the need of the hour for which the Golden Rock Railway Workshop, could be utilised, he said.

The Thennindhiya Nugarvor Paadhugaapu Sangam has welcomed the railway budget for positive features including Rs. 25 monthly season ticket for workers of unorganised sector.
