Welcome development, says Omar Abdullah
Special Correspondent
SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has welcomed the High Court order and expressed confidence that it would help establish the facts in the case of the death of the two Shopian women.
“I think it is a welcome development. The government is keen that we establish the facts. The interim report submitted by the Muzzafar Jan Commission has raised questions about the post mortem and whether anything could be determined from them,” he said.
“The High Court has decided that exhumation, followed by an in-depth post mortem, is the best way to establish the facts, and that is exactly what we want.”
He said the truth would help douse the public anger, arising from fears of a cover-up. It was a matter of time before the truth was known. “We cannot give any time frame, but the facts can come out within days or even weeks. The Jan Commission and the SIT are putting the pieces together.”
