Supply hit as six power plants trip
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD: Six power plants, belonging to the APGenco, NTPC and a private party, located at Kothagudem, Visakhapatnam and Talcheru (Orissa) tripped late on Friday night following technical problems, temporarily affecting power supply to consumers.
The tripping caused a loss of over 1,000 MW, forcing APTransco to resort to purchases from traders and load-shedding in some areas.
The 500-MW second unit of NTPC’s Simhadri Project, Visakhapatnam, however, was restored later but three units of the Kothagudem Thermal Power Station, remained on outage. The NTPC’s thermal complex at Talcheru from where the State gets 465 MW, stopped generation due to a technical problem. The 464-MW Guathami also developed snags and tripped. A part of its capacity has since been restored, said K. Vijayanand, Joint MD, APTransco.
