CHENNAI: The engineering admissions process under the single-window system for 2009-2010 began with applicants under the sports quota being called for counselling on Sunday.
V. Rhymend Uthariaraj, secretary, Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions 2009, said that of the 3,327 students who had applied under the sports quota, around 380 were called for verification of certificates on July 2.
After verification, 332 students were called on Sunday for admission to 100 seats reserved for eminent sportspersons in engineering colleges. While 12 seats are available in Anna University, 88 seats are available in other colleges including government, government-aided and self-financing institutions.
The first 10 rank-holders under the sports quota were given admission letters by P. Mannar Jawahar, Vice-Chancellor, Anna University, Chennai. Those who have not been selected under the sports quota can participate in the general counselling which starts on July 10.
