This Day That Age
Mr. M. Patanjali Sastri, retired Chief Justice of India, presiding over a meeting of the Hindu Dharma Prachara Sangham in Madras on July 5, said that any attempt to vest control of administration of Hindu religious and charitable endowments in Government, directly with a body of subordinate governmental machinery, would not be conducive to public interest. He suggested that, if there was any desire for proper administration of Hindu religious institutions and Mutts in the country, Boards of Management, comprising persons who have a real faith in Hindu religion, should be constituted, under law, and such autonomous powers of administration. The meeting was held to express public opinion on the provisions of the Bill to amend the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Act.
