‘Steps will be taken to bring Tirupur Corpn. under JNNURM’

Tirupur: Steps will be taken to include Tirupur Corporation too in the Jawarharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) to encourage fast track planned development of the city, according to Niranjan Mardi, Principal Secretary (Municipal Administration) to the State Government.

“At the moment, our proposals for inclusion of Tiruchi and Salem Corporations under the ambit of JNNURM are with the Union Ministry for Urban Development for approval,” he told journalists here on Sunday.

So far, only Chennai, Coimbatore and Madurai Corporations from the State had been brought under the Mission by the Central Government along with 60 other cities in the country. Dr. Mardi said that the entire infrastructure development works undertaken at various Corporation-run schools in the city at about Rs. 8 crore would be completed this fiscal.

Earlier, Dr. Mardi reviewed the action plan prepared by Corporation officials for the establishment of storm water drains in 175 layouts at Rs. 40 crore, with the funding support of Kreditanstalt fur Wiederaufbau (KfW), a development bank based in Frankfurt, Germany.
