Mr. David Ben Gurion, Israel’s 72-year-old Prime Minister, was carrying on as head of a caretaker government on July 6 following his resignation on July 5 over differences in his Coalition regime about a proposed arms deal with West Germany. The veteran Polish-born leader’s resignation carried out his threat to quit unless four “rebel” Ministers who had voted against the arms deal, which Parliament approved on July 1, resigned by July 5.
