Ropeway to ferry devotees at Maihar

Bhopal: In a bid to facilitate darshan of Goddess Sharda Devi at the famous Maihar temple in Satna district, a ropeway will come up to ferry the devotees by this month-end, officials said.

As of now the devotees from across the country pouring in this temple built in 502 AD have to climb more than 1000 steps to reach atop of the hill shrine for having Devi darshan.

BoT basis

The ropeway will come up by July 25 under built-Operate-and-transfer (BoT) basis with an estimated cost of Rs 8.50 crore, Maa Sharda Devi Mandir Prabhandan Samiti (SDMPS) Administrator and Maiher Sub Divisional Magistrate Vinay Jain said over phone.

Presently, vehicle service was being provided by the SDMPS to the devotees who are unable to climb the steps and reach the hill top to have darshan, he said.

Mr. Jain said that with the help of ropeway little short of one km, the devotees will reach the hill for darshan in five minutes rather over an hour by climbing the steps.

The SDM said that 20 cabs will be pressed into service initially and later 15 more will join them, adding that the charge of ferrying devotees to the temple will be Rs 45 and Rs 35 for adult and children respectively. He said that around 10,000 devotees visit the temple daily and during the ‘Navratras’ around 1.50 lakh come to the temple town to seek blessings of Maa Sharda Devi daily. -- PTI
