NEW DELHI: The Chief of Staff of the Afghan National Army (ANA), General Bismillah Khan Mohammadi, arrived here on Monday on a four-day visit.

General Mohammadi’s visit comes as part of the commitment between the two countries for regular exchange of visits at the political, diplomatic and military levels.

General Mohammadi will be interacting with senior military and civilian defence officers here.

“India shares warm and friendly relations with Afghanistan based on historical ties and traditional linkages. India supports a sovereign, stable, democratic and prosperous Afghanistan and is committed to building a strategic partnership in all dimensions to this effect,” noted an official statement by India on the visit. India is keen that the ANA should stand on its feet at the earliest and take charge of the security situation in the country.

The General was received by the Army Chief, General Deepak Kapoor, and was given a guard of honour after he paid tribute to the martyrs at Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate.
