NEW DELHI: The Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee in the Lok Sabha on Monday has earmarked Rs.1,770.20 crore for the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation which is headed for expansion within the city as well in other parts of the country. Out of the total allotment, the DMRC will get Rs.528 crore as government’s equity and Rs.1,088 crore as push-through assistance for loan sanctioned by the Japan International Cooperation Agency. The DMRC will also get subordinate debt for Central taxes of Rs.64.60 crore. Noida/Gurgaon projectsWith the Metro now poised to expand into Noida in Uttar Pradesh and Gurgaon in Haryana, the Union Budget has put aside Rs.89.6 crore for the project. While Rs.28.5 crore has been set aside for expansion into Gurgaon, Rs.61.1 crore has been granted for expansion into Noida. EstimatesThe Budget estimates for the Delhi Metro railway last year amounted to Rs.1,568 crore, revised by the Government subsequently to Rs.3,668 crore.
