Vladimir Radyuhin

MOSCOW: Russia and the U.S. have agreed on a framework to cut their nuclear arsenals by up to a third.

After several hours of talks with U.S. President Barack Obama, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said the two leaders had an “extremely useful, frank and businesslike discussion.”

Mr. Obama, who is on his maiden visit to Russia, described the talks as “very productive.”

The leaders announced an agreement to reduce the number of deployed nuclear warheads to between 1,500 and 1,675 per side, slash the number of delivery vehicles to a range of 500 to 1,100.
