A section on different memorials established for the leader included
CHENNAI: Congress leader and former Chief Minister K. Kamaraj (1903-1975), whose birth anniversary falls on July 15, belongs to a generation of political leaders, for whom politics is synonymous with public service. In October 1961, Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru described him as a notable example of a new type of leaders grown from people and outside the caste of English-knowing persons who had earlier provided the leadership. Sterling qualitiesKamaraj’s simplicity, concern for the poor and incorruptibility are even now remembered. A. Gopanna, Congress leader and vice-chairman of the Chennai District Library Authority, has come out with a revised edition of his work, “Kamaraj Oru Sahaptam (Kamaraj: A Saga).” The revised edition of the book will be launched at a function on Friday. G.K. Vasan, Union Minister for Shipping, M.K. Stalin, Deputy Chief Minister, and D. Sudarssanam, Congress Legislature Party leader, are expected to attend the function. Rare photographsThe book contains a number of rare photographs, featuring Kamaraj with many renowned leaders and personalities. It includes a series of articles published in “Alai Osai” since May 1976. The articles, written by veteran journalist Chinnakoothusi, are essentially recollections of Kamaraj’s associates and other dignitaries. While capturing different eventful moments of Kamaraj’s life, the book also contains the assessment of former Chief Minister and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam founder C. N. Annadurai on the Congress leader. Mr Gopanna, who has dedicated the book to G.K.Moopanar, has included a section on different memorials established for Kamaraj. The book carries a foreword from Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.
